My heartfelt thanks for inviting me to the Christmas function. It was another outstanding success, enjoyed, I'm sure by all. The entertainment was also top notch - splendid singing. I must tell you about the gaggle of six lads, who came up while we were waiting at Waterloo for stragglers and congratulated us for our efforts in World War II.
They had come down from the North to join the guards - and all had been accepted. Your committee man who was looking after us gave them some money, and told them have a drink to help them celebrate. It was a touching moment. Spying our decorations, one said "we want to get some medals like that". Thanks, once again.
