The Taxi Charity was delighted to host its annual Christmas party for war veterans on 5 December.
Veterans from WWII to Afghanistan gathered at Millwall FC to enjoy a slap-up Christmas meal and each other’s company, remembering those that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
A group of children from nearby Goodrich Community Primary School sang Christmas carols for the veterans.
The event was made extra special as WWII veteran, Tom Schaffer, was presented with the Dutch Liberation Medal from Lieutenant Colonel Rob Arts, Military and Air Attaché and Deputy Defence Attaché, from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Tom was also presented with some of the 400 Christmas cards sent to the Taxi Charity by Dutch school children to distribute to WWII veterans.
The charity was also pleased to welcome Daren Parr, John Dillane and Brian Heffernan, aka Cabbies Do Kilimanjaro, who presented the Taxi Charity with a cheque for £18,000, after a year long epic fundraising challenge to lose weight and get fit, before attempting the gruelling ascent of Kilimanjaro.
