It was no ordinary end to half term for a brave band of Year 8 parents from Port Regis School in Shaftesbury. Instead of kicking back with a cup of tea, they jumped out of a plane in the name of charity!

On a crisp, clear morning with blue skies stretching for miles, seven fearless parents took on a tandem skydive at Skydive Netheravon, raising funds in aid of the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans.

The team was expertly looked after by the Netheravon crew, who made sure everyone was fully briefed, harnessed up, and ready to take the leap from a breathtaking 13,500 feet. The parents went up in two groups, which meant plenty of cheering (and a few nervous smiles) as each jumper touched down safely on solid ground.

By the end of the day, all seven had completed the jump, and there were definitely two camps emerging: those already planning their next dive, and those who vowed, “never again!”

Rachel Blackmore, one of the fundraising team, said: “It was an unforgettable experience; the perfect blue skies, the rush of jumping from 13,500 feet, and knowing we were doing it for such a worthwhile cause. We were inspired by the bravery of the young men who parachuted into Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in 1944, and it felt fitting to honour their courage in our own small way.

The team at Skydive Netheravon looked after us brilliantly, and we’re thrilled to have raised £5,500 so far for the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans. As Remembrance Weekend approaches, it feels even more special to support a charity that does so much for those who’ve served our country.”

So far, the skydivers have raised an incredible £5,500 - and donations are still coming in.

Keely Allen, Fundraising Officer for the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, said: “What these Port Regis parents have done is nothing short of extraordinary. While most people were easing into the half-term break, they were jumping out of a plane at 13,500 feet all to support the veterans we care for. Their courage, generosity and good humour reflect the very best of community spirit.

Every pound helps us ensure that those who served and those we remember are honoured, supported and never forgotten. We’re so grateful to each and every one of them for literally taking the leap for our veterans.”

If you’d like to support them, it’s not too late to donate. Every pound helps make a difference for those who’ve served.
