We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Derek Leone, a much-valued member of the Taxi Charity family.

Derek’s connection with the charity spanned decades. He joined us as a volunteer driver in 1993 and became a committee member in 1995, going on to serve as our Press Officer for more than 20 years. His dedication, professionalism and quiet commitment helped shape the charity into what it is today.

Derek was always the first to arrive at South Holmwood for our Worthing trips, organising parking, welcoming veterans and ensuring everything ran smoothly. He was a familiar and reassuring presence on so many of our journeys, both in the UK and overseas, always ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Immaculately turned out, dependable and kind, Derek embodied the very best of the Taxi Charity.

Even after stepping back from the committee, Derek continued to support our work and remaining a valued part of our community. In recent years, he devoted much of his time to caring for his wife Brenda, showing the same strength and compassion at home that he gave to the charity.

Derek will be greatly missed by all who knew him - drivers, veterans, volunteers and friends.

Our thoughts are with his wife Brenda, his sons Andrew and Clifford, and his granddaughter Chloe at this very difficult time.

Rest in peace, Derek. Thank you for everything you gave to the Taxi Charity.
