A race against time to reach Harwich

Taxi Charity trips involve plenty of planning, but sometimes even the best-laid plans come down to a frantic dash against the clock.

This time, it was veteran John Pinkerton who found himself in a race to reach Harwich and the ferry for the Operation Market Garden trip.

John had spent much of the day searching for his passport, which had mysteriously disappeared just when he needed it most. After dinner with our volunteers Keely, Kallie and Dean, they took him home for one final search before reluctantly deciding they had no choice but to head off to Harwich without him.

Then, just 30 minutes later, the missing passport was found!

Unfortunately, by then the rest of the party was already on its way and there simply wasn't enough time for the team to turn around and collect John.

Enter Treble Twenty Cars & Couriers Ltd.

A quick phone call from Keely to Del at the Brentwood minicab firm, and a car was dispatched to collect John and get him to Harwich in time for the overnight crossing.

Driver Tony couldn't have been more delighted to be involved, telling us that he felt “very honoured to have such an important person in my minicab.”

And John made it - arriving at the ferry with literally minutes to spare - and joined the rest of the Taxi Charity party for their journey to the Netherlands.
