Committee Member

Simon Hawes

Simon was born in 1966 and has been a London taxi driver since 2004.

He became a volunteer driver for the Taxi Charity in 2012 and says, "I had just finished reading the Cornelius Ryan book, A Bridge Too Far, when I saw that the charity needed a couple of drivers for a trip to Arnhem. I volunteered and immediately became hooked on doing what I can to help."

He is proud to have been a Taxi Charity committee member since January 2022.

When asked what being part of the charity means to him Simon said, "I love being able to give something back to veterans who have given so much to the country and to provide support for them to get the maximum benefit from our trips."

Simon has been married to Karen since 1996 and they have a daughter. His hobbies include watching Leeds United, gardening, travelling and red wine.

He has recently taken up running (badly) and is looking to increase the distances he runs (watch this space)...
