Ian was born in Park Royal in 1956 and grew up in Ealing and Harrow. He received his Green Badge in September 1989.

 

He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Member of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers.

 

In 2014, Ian became a volunteer driver for the Taxi Charity, joined the Taxi Charity committee in January 2015, was vice chairman between 2016 and 2019, and chairman between 2019 and 2022. He became of Head of Collections in 2024.

​A lifelong admirer of Muhammad Ali, Ian got to know the boxer during Ali’s many visits to London in the 80s and early 90s.
