Born: Park Royal, Middlesex, 1956.
Early Years: Ian grew up in Ealing and Harrow.
Working Life: Sales representative for various companies (1974 - 1987) selling sports goods, textiles, French wine, advertising and food.
Taxi Career: Ian undertook the Knowledge in 1988/89 and received his Green Badge in September 1989.
Charity Work: Ian is a Freeman of the City of London and a Member of the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers. In 1992 and 1993, he participated with Ealing Broadway drivers who organised outings to Chessington World of Adventures for children with special needs. He has been involved with the Children’s Magical Taxi Tour to Disneyland Paris since its inception in 1994, and is one of only five drivers to have completed all 26 trips to date.
In 2014, he became a volunteer driver for the Taxi Charity, escorting veterans to the Netherlands and Worthing; and joined the Taxi Charity committee in January 2015. He became Vice Chairman of the charity in January 2016 and Chairman in May 2019.
In June 2021, it was announced the Taxi Charity had won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and at Westminster Abbey in September 2021, the Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London presented Ian with a crystal trophy citing 'special recognition' for the charity’s work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
A lifelong admirer of Muhammad Ali, Ian got to know Ali well during his many visits to London in the 80s and early 90s. He has written several articles for Boxing News magazine and its associated publications, including a Special Tribute Bookazine, which was published in June 2016 following Ali's death.
