Ellie Elston
Taxi Charity Ambassador
Ellie has been a paramedic with the London Ambulance Service since 2022 and began volunteering with the Taxi Charity in May 2024. Inspired by a colleague’s stories about the veterans and the incredible trips organised by the charity, Ellie knew immediately that these veterans – and the drivers who support them – were people she wanted to meet, help and spend time with.
“I love the camaraderie, the laughter and that special feeling of being part of the ‘Taxi Charity family’. Whenever we’re together, it’s like stepping into a wonderful little bubble where everyone looks out for one another, and nothing is ever too much when it comes to helping the veterans achieve something or supporting their daily needs.
I’ve been fortunate to join charity trips to Worthing, the Netherlands and Normandy, providing care whenever it was needed. Without the Taxi Charity, many of our incredible WWII veterans would not have the opportunity to experience the gratitude of the nations they helped to liberate, such as the Netherlands and France.
These trips – as well as the day outings and events – keep friendships alive between these golden centenarians and our younger veterans, and that connection is so incredibly important. To be able to contribute to this effort and support the whole team is both a privilege and an honour.”
